Have you been affected by the recent traumatic events in Bondi?
In the weeks and months following a potentially traumatic event, such as the Bondi Beach event in 2025 or the incident at Bondi Junction Westfield in 2024, it is common to experience ongoing feelings of fear, anxiety, or anger.
These reactions can affect anyone, whether you were directly impacted (e.g. present at, witnessed, or personally affected by the event) or indirectly affected (e.g. experiencing emotional distress after learning about it through news or social media).
For some people, these feelings gradually improve over time, while for others, they may persist and start to interfere with daily life.
Researchers at our National PTSD Research Centre are conducting an online study to understand how Australians are coping after the 2024/2025 Bondi events.
Participants will receive personalised feedback about their own symptoms, which can help them understand their reactions and wellbeing, and provide guidance on appropriate support services if needed.
Who can take part?
You are invited to participate if you:
- Are aged 18 years or older and English speaking
- Were living in Australia during the recent traumatic events in Bondi (including the 2024 and/or 2025 incidents)
- Have experienced either:
- Direct impact from the Bondi events (e.g., I was/someone close to me was present at or witnessed the event, or I was involved as part of my work (e.g., first responder), or
- Indirect impact from the Bondi events (e.g., I experienced emotional distress after learning about the event through media coverage/other information sources, and these feelings persisted)
Not eligible? You can still check your symptoms through an alternative online PTSD screener.
What does the study involve?
Eligible participants are asked to complete a 20-30-minute online questionnaire, responding to questions about their trauma-related symptoms following the Bondi event/s. Participants will receive individualised, information-only feedback (not a diagnosis) and links to support services.
The survey is anonymous, unless you opt-in to receive an email copy of your results.
