The UniSC Sports Awards are an annual event held by the University to celebrate the sporting achievements of its students.
Award categories
Sportsperson of the Year
The University’s highest sporting honour is awarded to the UniSC student who has achieved the most outstanding results in their chosen sport, as determined by the UniSC Sport Awards Selection Panel. The recipient not only excels in athletic achievement but also exemplifies strong character and consistently demonstrates sportsmanship in every aspect of their sporting involvement.
Vice Chancellor's Sporting and Academic Excellence
This award recognises a student athlete who demonstrates exceptional commitment to both sport and academic achievement. The recipient consistently performs at a high level in their chosen sport while maintaining strong academic results, exemplifying dedication, discipline, and balance.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sports Person of the Year
This award recognises an Aboriginal/and or Torres Strait Islander student-athlete who has achieved excellence in their chosen sport while maintaining a strong commitment to their academic success and active community involvement.
Team of the Year
This award recognises a UniSC team that demonstrates outstanding achievement in every aspect of their sporting involvement. The team exemplifies professionalism, strong engagement, and sportsmanship while achieving an exceptional result at an Intervarsity competition.
Outstanding Service to Sport Award
Recognises a student or non-student who has shown outstanding service, team spirit, leadership and contribution to sport through a volunteer position. They receive this award in recognition of their dedication, commitment, and positive impact supporting and enhacning the university community.
Team Spirit of the Year
This award recognises a UniSC Intervarsity team that embodies genuine team spirit, supporting one another and engaging actively within the sporting community. The team contributes to a vibrant, inclusive, and uplifting sporting culture, while demonstrating pride, passion, and professionalism.
Half Blue
This performance-based award recognises student-athletes who have achieved outstanding success in their sport. Eligible achievements include success at an open national level, or success at a youth international level, such as selection for a youth national squad, the Youth Olympics, Youth Commonwealth Games, or Age World Championships. Recipients also demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship both in and out of competition.
Full Blue
This performance-based award recognises student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding sporting performance. Eligible achievements include success at an open international level or selection on an open national squad, including representation at the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, or World Championships. Recipients have reached a standard comparable to Australia’s best sportspeople and demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship both in and out of competition.
Continued Excellence
Recipients have previously received a Half Blue or Full Blue Award, and have reproduced or surpassed their results from previous years.
Sports Club of the Year
The UniSC Sports Club of the Year Award recognises a student sporting club for outstanding achievements and contributions. The award celebrates exceptional performance, leadership, and commitment, both in and out of compeition, with selection based on competition results, community engagement, club development, governance, and Intervarsity participation.
All-Rounder Spirit Award
This award celebrates a student-athlete who embodies the spirit and values of UniSC Sport and Fitness, consistently demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm. Actively engaged across multiple areas of UniSC Sport and Fitness, they show unwavering support for their peers and contribute positively to team culture. Through their participation and commitment, they represent UniSC with pride both in and out of competition, going above and beyond to uplift others and enhance the university sporting community.
Coaches Award
Presented to a UniSC affiliated coach, this award recognises an individual who has consistently demonstrated commitment, effort, and a positive attitude throughout compeition. It acknowledges their dedication to team culture, performance, and their support in enhancing the overall UniSC student experience through sport. Eligible recipients must be directly involved in UniSC sport programs or affiliated club activities.
