Rebecca Mowat

Dr Rebecca Mowat is an experienced academic with a strong background in the biosciences and over 14 years of tertiary teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate nursing education. She has taught extensively in anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology, and more recently in the management of long-term conditions and gerontology.

Rebecca is committed to advancing holistic, person-centred approaches to care. Her teaching emphasises understanding what matters most to individuals and supporting patients to achieve meaningful health outcomes aligned with their personal goals.

Before entering academia, Rebecca spent eight years in private practice as an osteopath and has 12 years of nursing experience across New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom. This diverse clinical background informs her teaching and research, ensuring strong integration between theory and practice.

Her research focuses on older adult health and wellbeing, chronic pain, and chronic condition management and prevention. She has a particular interest in social justice and improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Rebecca is an engaging and creative educator who is passionate about supporting students and early-career researchers in their academic and research development.
