Dr Laura Gabriel is a Senior Midwifery Lecturer and course coordinator within the Bachelor of Midwifery program. With over 25 years of diverse national and Internation midwifery practice, Dr Gabriel is dedicated to enhancing midwifery practice and improving outcomes for childbearing women and their families.

Dr Gabriel’s PhD research employed a undertook a phenomenographic approach to investigate how Australian midwives conceptualise intrapartum risk. This research led to the development of an Outcome Space framework, elucidating the hierarchical relationships between the various phenomena.

In her extensive research career, Dr Gabriel has examined the impact of mentorship to midwifery students in continuity of care models, explored the role of midwives in postnatal sexual health, and investigated strategies to promote respectful maternity care in low resource settings.

Dr Gabriel is also experienced in designing and delivering blended learning education. Recently she has integrated the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in midwifery curricula to enhance critical thinking skills. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to higher education, Dr Gabriel was awarded senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) in 2023.
