Dr Olivier Oren is a Lecturer in Tourism and Event Management at the School of Business and Creative Industries, University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC). Born and raised in France, Olivier worked as a food and beverage manager in fine dining before transitioning into academia, and this industry grounding continues to shape his practical, student-centred approach to teaching across tourism, events, sport, and hospitality. A recognised educator, he has received a Group Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

Olivier's research examines the human dimensions of the visitor economy: how digital media is reshaping shared social experiences, and how employment conditions and workforce dynamics are evolving across tourism, events, and hospitality. His work has been published in leading international journals, and he is currently a guest editor of a Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management special issue on advancing workforce research towards a more human-centred, inclusive, and positive future.

He is also an investigator on an Australian Research Council Linkage project examining volunteering in rural and regional Australia — a workforce central to community events and sport — collaborating with scholars and industry partners across multiple universities. Beyond his research, Olivier contributes to the sector through peer review, doctoral supervision, and advocacy work with the Council for Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE).
