Marcus Bussey is an author, editor, historian, futurist, and educator whose scholarship explores how cultures imagine, remember, and create futures. His research brings history, futures studies, education, relational philosophy, sustainability, and creative practice into dialogue, examining how individuals and communities cultivate the capacities to participate consciously in creating more just, resilient, and life-affirming futures.

Working across disciplinary and cultural boundaries, Marcus has developed a distinctive programme of research centred on anticipatory imagination, historical consciousness, and the generative relationships between pasts, presents, and futures. His work explores how temporal awareness shapes human identity, learning, creativity, and collective action, leading to contributions in heritage futures, educational transformation, community engagement, environmental communication, and the emerging field of the Futures Senses.

Marcus approaches scholarship as a collaborative and dialogical practice. As an author and editor of books, supervisor of doctoral researchers, and co-creator of international research networks and learning communities, he is committed to intellectual hospitality—creating spaces in which diverse perspectives, disciplines, and traditions can meet in genuine dialogue. This commitment is reflected in his extensive editorial work, international collaborations, community-engaged research, and long-standing partnerships with scholars and practitioners across Australia, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

His current research explores how anticipatory imagination, relational learning, and creative practice can help individuals and communities navigate uncertainty and respond to the interconnected challenges of our time. He is a researcher in the MISTRA Environmental Communication programme, an international initiative examining communication for sustainability, and serves as Co-Nurturer of Vishwaneedam, a global community dedicated to dialogue, cultural renewal, and human flourishing. His supervision of doctoral researchers reflects his commitment to nurturing original, interdisciplinary scholarship that bridges theory and practice and contributes to the development of emerging scholars.
