Associate Professor Brendon Murphy is a dual qualified lawyer and social worker. He completed his Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at the University of Newcastle (Australia). He was admitted as a solicitor to the NSW Supreme Court, and worked in the early part of his career in compensation litigation and as an in-house lawyer.
Brendon was called to academy as an academic, completing his doctoral dissertation on the regulation of undercover investigation and legal knowledge systems in 2015, which was later published as The Regulation of Undercover Investigation: The Australian Experience in 2021. In addition to his academic work, he has served as Head Assessor for the NSW Law Society’s Specialist Accreditation Board since 2017, and served as senior policy lawyer with the Law Council of Australia. He is author and co-author of more than 30 books and journal articles. His research interests include criminal law, evidence, legal theory and the epistemologies of law.
