After collecting 13 medals in swimming, wheelchair basketball and cycling, the University of Sunshine Coast cohort will cheer on its remaining athletes to Commonwealth Games glory. 

Headed by swim star Alexandria Perkins’ four gold and one silver, UniSC high-performance athletes have shone throughout the opening week of Glasgow 2026. 

Fellow UniSC Swimming squad members Jenna Jones (gold and bronze), Lakeisha Patterson (gold), Isaac Cooper (gold) and Emily Beecroft (silver) have also experienced the elation of standing upon the podium. 

Outside of the pool, UniSC prosthetics and orthotics graduate – wheelchair basketballer Hannah Dodd – helped Australia to a bronze medal with a 19-17 nailbiter against Canada on Wednesday night. 

On Thursday, Australian Cycling Academy alumna Sophie Edwards helped get the opening night of cycling off to a bang, with the Aussies winning the women's 4000m individual pursuit  

Colleagues Blake Agnoletto and Oliver Bleddyn collected silver in the final of the men's 4000m individual pursuit. 

In athletics, ex-UniSC runner Peyton Craig will be among a trio of Aussies to contest the 800m final, following a scorching semi-final run.  

Nathan Jason was disappointed not to medal in the T12 100m, but after switching from swimming, has done remarkably to own the national record in his new sport.  

In lawn bowls, Katelyn Inch was unlucky to miss the finals for her birth nation New Zealand after finishing one spot outside qualification. 

Fellow bowler Rebecca Rixon finished sixth in her group for the women’s pairs but had the honour of representing Malta alongside sister Connie, with their mother managing the team. 

All eyes will be on UniSC-based Sunshine Coast Lightning netballers competing for both Australia and New Zealand this weekend. 

The two countries are firming to meet in the final on Sunday, having both won their first five qualifying games.  

Courtney Bruce, Cara Koenen, and Liz Watson are representing Australia, with Donnel Wallam a shadow reserve, while Karin Burger is playing for the Kiwis.
